Em colaboração com a Amnistia Internacional, o coletivo alemão Mentalgassi e a equipa criativa Londrina de Wieden + Kennedy, Lisa Jelliffe e Kirsten Rutherford, juntaram-se para criar uma série de instalações com o objetivo de alertar para os casos de 6 indivíduos cujos Direitos Humanos lhes foram negados ou abusados, entre eles: Fatima Hussein Badi, que após um julgamento injusto enfrenta uma pena de morte, no Iémen; Jabbar Savalan, um estudante que está preso no Azerbaijão pelo seu ativismo pacifico contra o Governo; e Natalia Estemirova, uma ativista dos Direitos Humanos russa cujo assassino não foi levado à Justiça.

Inaugurada em Londres em 2010 para dar destaque ao caso de Troy Davis (que passou 19 anos no corredor da morte nos E.U.A., apesar das sérias dúvidas em relação à sua condenação), este ano a campanha pode ser vista em 26 locais espalhados pela Alemanha, Irlanda, Reino Unido e Dinamarca.
Cada instalação, que apresenta um grande plano dos indivíduos acima referidos mas que só é visível num determinado ângulo, dando assim sentido ao mote da campanha “Torna visível o invisível”, é acompanhada de uma placa que refere o site da Amnistia Internacional onde qualquer pessoa pode agir e saber mais sobre o projeto.

The German Street Art collective Mentalgassi, and London´s Wieden + Kennedy creative team Lisa Jelliffe and Kirsten Rutherford, in collaboration with Amnesty International, have produced a creative and unique series of art installations to raise awareness about the cases of 6 individuals whose human rights have been denied or abused such as Fatima Hussein Badi, who faces the death penalty in Yemen after an unfair trial, Jabbar Savalan, who is in prison in Azerbaijan for his peaceful anti-government activism, and Natalia Estemirova, a Russian human rights activist whose murder has not been brought to justice.

Launched in London last year to highlight the case of Troy Davis (who has spent 19 years on death row in the U.S.A. despite doubts over his conviction), this year’s campaign can be seen in 26 locations across Germany, Ireland, Wales and Denmark. Each of the new installations depict a close up of an individual’s face that only appears from a certain angle, giving the campaign line ‘making the invisible visible’ meaning when the image suddenly comes into view. A plaque on each site alerts passers-by to an Amnesty International website where they can take action in support of each of the individuals featured.

"Desde que em 2008 Stephan Doitschinoff fez da pequena cidade de Lençóis (Baia/Brasil) um monumental site specific essencialmente pela força da pintura mural, que a sua obra atravessa um importante processo de maturação. As suas criações já não se resumem somente aos suportes do mural e da tela, reivindicando progressivamente a incorporação de todo o ambiente espacial circundante à obra. É nesse contexto que Stephan propõe a instalação de um Templo Ecuménico no interior da Mouraria. Espaço desenhado pela ambiência intemporal e intimista das vielas, que transporte consigo a amálgama referencial de uma religião que absorve e incorpora antigos e novos elementos num mundo marcado pela crescente instabilidade da tradição e da instituição dentro da nossa contemporaneidade.

Dia 9 de Julho às 21h assista à procissão/performance que marca a inauguração deste novo espaço de culto em Lisboa.

Nunca fui a Xangai, mas a minha amiga Susana, já! E ao que parece, não há palavras que consigam descrever o quão fantástica foi a viagem.
Falou-me dos edifícios, das pessoas nas ruas, da comida e da zona alternativa de Xangai, e claro, voltou com resmas de fotos dessa experiência única (a repetir!) que inclui Xangai, Macau e Hong Kong. :)

Um conjunto de armazéns abandonados em Moganshan Road, perto de Suzhou Creek em Xangai, deram origem ao espaço M50, espaço este que foi o berço do movimento de Arte Moderna de Xangai, tranformando esta àrea numa espécie de Distrito das Artes.

I've never been to Shanghai but my friend Susana did. The word "Amazing" isn't enough to describe how cool her journey was.
She told me about buildings, people, food, and the Art District and came back with photos galore of that awesome trip experience including Shanghai, Macau and Hong Kong .

M50 is the name of the complex that has become the Moganshan Road Art District in Shanghai. Formerly a set of dilapidated warehouses, the complex, just south of Shanghai's Suzhou Creek, has been turned into the premier location for Shanghai's modern art movement.

Num dos meus passeios pela Baixa Lisboeta, encontrei este rapaz perto de um restaurante "janota" com a esplanada cheia de turistas loiros e com grandes canecas de cerveja em cima da mesa. A azáfama da esplanada quase que o fez passar despercebido mas havia ali algo de irregular no meio envolvente que me chamou a atenção. Parei. Voltei atrás e ali fiquei durante uns minutos a apreciar, o traço e a textura do papel.

Ele assina como Tinta Crua. É de Lisboa, a ilustração é o seu ponto forte e a lista de nomes de artistas que o inspiram é infinita.

Found this little boy downtown nearby a fancy restaurant crowded with blonde tourists having lots of beer outside. I was walking and then stopped and turned around just to check it out.
Tinta Crua is the artist's name. He's from Lisbon, Illustration is his major talent and he has an endless list of artist names that truly inspire his work.

Exhibition "Detritos" by Alexandre Farto a.k.a. Vhils

Hi there!
I was surfing the web last night while i was listening to one of my favorite Portuguese bands - Orelha Negra (literally translating to "Black Ear"), when the song "Since you´ve been gone / A Memória" started to play. The video of that song is just amazing!!! And it suits the song and my mood just perfectly!

It reminds me that I've been away from this little place of mine for long long time. But also reminds me about "Detritos" - Alexandre Farto a.k.a. Vhils's latest exhibition. :)
"Why?" Because Orelha Negra had invited Vhils to do what he does best and also to produce the videoclip for the single "M.I.R.I.A.M".
It turned out into a slow motion video shot full of explosions perfectly blended with the amazing music that Orelha Negra creates! An awesome urban beat steeped in black music, combining a little bit of jazz elements, funk, soul, and hip-hop vibes..

Until April 23rd "Detritos" - Alexandre Farto a.k.a. Vhils's exhibition - can be seen at Galeria Presença in Rua Miguel Bombarda, 570 - Porto, Portugal. Open monday to friday 10h - 12h30 | 15h - 19h30 and saturday 15h - 19h30.

Para o caso de não terem estado atentos às notícias ou ligados às redes socais nos últimos dois dias, ficam a saber que, ontem à noite, Banksy foi simultamente a sexta palavra mais procurada no Google e mais "falada" no Twitter, tudo por causa da polémica intro que o artista criou para o episódio "Money Bart" da série americana The Simpsons, que a Fox acabou por retirar do Youtube devido a violações de direitos de copy.
É a primeira vez que um artista é convidado para trabalhar no storyboard e depois de verem, vão ficar surpreendidos como é que este teve a aprovação dos executivos da Fox.

Surpreendente, bastante negro e incrivelmente complexo. Simplesmente, Banksy! :)

In case you haven’t been reading Twitter or Facebook at all in the past day or so, last night “Banksy” was both the sixth search term on Google and the number six trending topic on Twitter, all because of the street artist’s unbelievably dark storyboarding of The Simpsons ' infamous intro for "Money Bart" episode, which Fox just removed from YouTube for copyright violations.
It's the first time an artist has been invited to storyboard part of the show and when you see it, you'll be shocked that it made it past the network executives.

Amazing, quite dark, and incredibly complex. Just Banksy! :)

Esta exposição é um retrato do Coraçãozinho de Merda que vive em todos nós.
Quem nunca sofreu por amor? Quem nunca passou mal por causa deste orgão palpitante preso numa cela com barras de osso?

O Coraçãozinho de Merda é o que é. Sofredor por natureza, crente e utópico, destoa do resto do mundo cruel e indiferente. Este coração é melancólico porque sente, porque leva as maiores sovas de sempre. No entanto, que podemos nós dizer? Que os coraçõezinhos são todos uma papa nojenta que se desfaz quando sofremos? A resposta é simples, são. Mas eles não sabem ser de outra maneira, e afinal de contas toda a gente os adora. Mas este coração é especial, por mais cicatrizes que tenha, levanta-se dorido e põe os punhos no alto.

This is a portrait of the little Little Shitty Heart (Coraçãozinho de Merda) that lives inside each and every one of us.
Who hasn't felt like shit for the sake of love? Who hasn't been hurt by this throbbing organ sealed in his rib cage?

It is what it is, this Little Shitty Heart. Melancholic and gullible but always a hopeful dreamer, opposing this cruel and indifferent world. Suffering because it feels, because it takes the biggest and meanest beatings. What else can we say? Well, we can say that all these little hearts turn to a disgusting mush when we suffer. But they don't really know how to be any other way. Should they be blamed for that? We all love them anyway. But this heart is special, it doesn't matter how many scars have burned its skin, it'll get up sore and put its fists up high.

Encontrei esta imagem há algum tempo, e lembro-me de pensar que se tratava de um Santo António a ouvir rádio. Santo António é o padroeiro da cidade de Lisboa e conhecido também como santo casamenteiro.

Por alguma razão, nunca pensei que os santos, ou anjos, ouvissem outra música que não fosse Gospel ou Canto Gregoriano, mas este desenho fez-me pensar nisso. Afinal, estes santos, ou anjos, estão a ouvir um rádio tipo tijolo e como tal, daquela parede só pode sair Hip Hop, não acham? :P

I found this piece a long time ago and i remember thought it was a Santo António's image with him listening to a boombox. Santo António is the patron saint of Lisbon and is well-known as the marriage saint.

For somehow i didn't imagine saints or angels listen to another music besides Gospel or Gregorian Chant but this work made me think about it. After all this saints, or angels, are listening to a boombox and i just can picture Hip Hop music on that wall, don't u think? :P

O fascinante universo das emblemáticas figuras do Jazz e dos músicos negros dos anos 60 e 70 é o mote para a exposição "Black", do artista brasileiro Flávio Sponton.
Trabalhos feitos com spray, tinta acrílica e marcadores sobre telas e vinil, podem ser apreciados no Fim do Mundo Bar Cultural, em São Paulo - Brasil, até ao final deste mês.

The fascinating universe of iconic Jazz names and black musicians from the late 60's and 70's is the purpose for the brasilian artist Flávio Sponton's "Black" exhibition.

Spray the Can battle

Show your skills on the spray can!

During ‘Spray the can battle’ 20 competitors are going head to head in a graffiti/ graphic art battle.
All competitors will receive an empty blank Montana spray can, which will be used as the canvas. They have to paint, write, tag, sticker or shape the can as creative as the human mind allows it possible. Montana will provide the spray cans and a broad selection of markers. Any other items such as stencils, stickers or paint are the competitors own responsibility.
The spray cans will be judged by a professional jury and the winner receives a goody bag and a cash price of €150,-.
During the battle, dj’s will spin the dopest and phattest rap, soul and funk.

Jury: Blade (King of Kings, NYC), Letty (rollin’peas/ graphotism), Oscar (GO Gallery),
Dj’s: Billy bad ass, Dynamite soul dj team (sounder, phase & rebel#1).

Sempre fui uma grande fã de animação e durante alguns anos estive completamente viciada nas séries manga como o Dragon Ball (a série Z era a minha preferida) e, ainda guardo algumas cassetes com a banda sonora da saga.

Encontrar o Tartaruga Genial numa parede, fez-me sorrir. :)

I was always a huge fan of animated shows and for years i was addicted to manga series like Dragon Ball (Z was my favorite one) and still have tapes with the soundtrack of it.

To find Master Roshi on a wall, it made me smile. :)

No dia 13 de setembro de 2009 algumas centenas de pessoas tomaram a Avenida 23 de Maio, em São Paulo, Brasil, como forma de protesto contra a política da prefeitura da cidade que insiste em censurar manifestações artísticas públicas de qualquer natureza. Numa cidade sufocada pela poluição e pelo trânsito, em que milhares de pessoas passam fome e sobrevivem em condição de rua, gastam-se anualmente alguns milhões de dólares para apagar de modo indiscriminado inúmeros trabalhos artísticos pela cidade. O vídeo acima foi gravado durante a acção; quase todos os trabalhos foram pintados de cinza algumas horas depois.

On the 13 th september 2009 a few hundred people took the Avenida 23 de Maio at Sao Paulo, Brasil, as a way to protest against the City Hall that insists to censure any public art display. In a city sufocated by polution and traffic, with millions of people starving and living on the streets, the city Hall spends per year millions of dollars to erase all kind of works. This video was recorded during the action and some hours later almost every works were painted grey.
